Money:
The currency of Laos is "Lao kip". Actually, there are three currencies being in circulation which are Thai baht, US dollar and Lao kip. Most upscale restaurants, hotels and shops in big cities of Laos accept the three currencies, while in small towns; kip is still the major currency.
You wouldn't get any currency exchange information between Lao kip and any other currency or get kip in advance outside Laos because Lao kip is not a freely-exchanged currency. That also means: do not exchange too much kip and spend it all after you leave this country.
Remember to confirm with the bank that they have enough kip cash before you cash your check.
ATMs:
The only place you can find ATM in Laos is Vientiane. Furthermore, the maximum amount allowed to be get from ATM is LAK700, 000 equal to USD70. Every transaction will be charged USD2 by BCEL(Banque pour le Commerce Exterior Lao).
Credit Cards:
You can freely use your Visa, MasterCard in Vientiane, Laung Prabang and Vang Vieng. If you need to get cash with your credit card, the banks will charge up to 3% transaction fee.
