Your honeymoon will be probably be the most important holiday you ever take, so it is essential to make sure it is exactly what you want. And only you, the couple, know what that is.
Whether you want a quiet, secluded island with a near deserted white sand beach or prefer somewhere more lively; whether you want to visit exotic minorities and their remote villages or prefer to explore Vietnam's cities; whether you want the excitement and adventure of water sports or prefer to enjoy a spa with natural hot springs and mud baths, Vietnam has them all. And you don't need to choose just one; you can mix and match as you prefer.
Set pre-organised honeymoons are available, which take in the most romantic and beautiful parts of the country, but if you prefer to be more flexible you can design your own itinerary and activities.
A visit to the capital city, Hanoi with its French colonial architecture and its romantic Old Quarter is a favourite and strolling through its streets is an unforgettable experience. Followed, perhaps, by a candlelit dinner.
Near Hanoi is Vietnam's top tourist attraction, the stunningly beautiful Ha Long Bay with its literally thousands of islands. Take a trip aboard a wooden junk and spend a few days slowly touring the islands, enjoying meals of the local seafood and you can even find a quite island to spend a night or two – or sleep under the stars on the roof of the junk.
In South Central Vietnam, is the very popular Nha Trang with beautiful soft sands lined by tamarisk and spruce trees, providing shade. It is one of the main snorkelling and scuba diving centres in Vietnam. Of shore, there is an archipelago of small islands. Nha Trang is a place where you can join the action or be more secluded as you prefer. There is a good selection of restaurants, both Vietnamese and International.
Mui Ne Beach is a quieter option with 18km of soft white sand and tastefully integrated low-rise hotels strung along the beachfront. The entire beach is excellent but it is essential to see the massive rolling dunes at the far ends. Local shacks provide some of the freshest, cheapest and tastiest seafood you will find in Vietnam and there is a selection of top class international restaurants.
Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon will come as a great surprise after Hanoi. This is a city on the move and it is changing on daily basis. Ignore the crazy traffic and enjoy the beautiful old buildings hidden among the shiny new ones, enjoy a cheap and delicious road side snack and watch one of Asia's most vibrant cities go about its business.
Probably the most romantic place in Vietnam is Phu Quoc Island off the coast of Cambodia in the gulf of Thailand. It became a part of Vietnam under the French and has remained so to this day. Relatively undeveloped (though this may change), the island is mainly a dense tropical forest ringed with beautiful beaches. If you get tired of sitting around all day eating delicious seafood and drinking fresh coconut milk or beers, then you can go snorkelling to nearby coral reefs or visit the crocodile farm. But what ever you do, don't forget to watch the amazing sight of the sun setting over the sea to be replaced by the most dazzling display of twinkling stars. That is romantic!
