Surin

Surin is one of the north-eastern provinces (changwat) of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are (from west clockwise) Buriram, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et and Sisaket. To the south it borders Oddar Meancheay of Cambodia. The first syllable Sur- originates from the Sanskrit word Sura meaning God, and the word In-tar from Sanskrit is Indra. Hence the name of the province literally means Lord Indra. When you see the crystal water and green hill, and some incredible beautiful islands, you will absolutely happy for your decision to include it into your Thailand tours.

The best time to visit Surin during your Thailand holiday is November, when the provincial capital explodes into life for the Annual Elephant Roundup when giant scrums of pachyderm come to town- you will never see so many well-dressed tuskers who are definitely impressed your Surin tours. Surin is not noly an elephant country and is justly famed for it is annual roundup , a nearly 200-year tradition; the city is also a good base for exploring far-flung Khmer ruins. For example, the City Pillar Shrine. The pillar was made of the trunk of Chaiya Phruek tree (laburnum) and stands 108in above ground level and 79in below ground level. The horoscope of the city is placed inside. The guardian spirits who protect the city are enshrined in the City Pillar Shrine, in the past there were only three: Phra Sua Mueng, Phra Song Mueng and Phra Lak Mueng. Later, King Rama IV added Phra Siam Thewathirat in the area of the City Pillar Shrine.
In your Surin tours, you will surprised to have the opportunity to taste the combination flavor of Thai and Cambodian food. Unlike other Northeasterners, Surin people prefer plain to sticky rice, and grow the best Thai rice-the famed jasmine rice. Most of Surin’s dishes are made from local vegetables and fish. Given Cambodian culinary influence, some Surin dishes are cooked with less concentrated coconut milk than that in the central region. The use of turmeric and other spices suggests Indian influence, which has remained in Cambodia since the Khmer Empire. As the Thailand tour industry increased , Surin and its scenery was exposed to the wider world, which attarct more and more Thailand tour makers to come and visit. Surin tours, will be one of your highlights of your whole Thailand holiday.
