Da Nang Cathedral

Danang Cathedral is known by the locals as 'Rooster Cathedral' because of the weathercock sitting atop the impressive steeple. Locating in Tran Phu Road, Danang, the candy-pink building was constructed in 1923, the French Colonial period, for French residents by Priest Louis Vallet, according to whom the rooster is a symbol related with St Peter's story in the Gospel about repentance and awakening. 

With a height of 70 meter, the church is in Gothic-style and an amazing architecture that won a medal by the Vatican Holy See. Inside the church, there are holy pictures and statues depicting the Bible events as motifs of Western churches. Gorgeous medieval stained glass windows of various saints reflect the delicate interior of the building. A grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary, replica of the Lourdes Grotto in France, is placed behind the church.

Today the cathedral functions as a lively place of worship for Danang’s 4,000 Catholic believers. In the Mass time, if you arrive late, there’s no seat available. Masses are held at 5:00am and 5:00pm from Monday to Saturday while on Sunday at 5:00am, 6:30am and 4:30pm.
