Bagan Travel Guide

Bagan Travel Guide

One of the major tourist destinations in Myanmar is Bagan, an ancient city located in the central part of Myanmar. The city was the capital of the first kingdom of Myanmar from the 9h to 13th centuries, when over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas, and monasteries were built. Today, there are just over 2,000 remaining temples spreading across this 42-square-kilometer plain next to the Irrawaddy River. Travelers regard the area as equal to the Angkor Archaeological Park in Cambodia.

When traveling in Bayan, you can choose to fly in a hot air balloon to get a bird's view of the ancient temple plain of Bagan or make in-depth explorations into some of the temples like Htilominlo Temple. Also, why not go to the Nyaung U Market to learn about the locals' daily life? So don't miss this incredible place on your first visit to Myanmar.

NYAUNG U MARKET

Nyaung U Market is a busy foothold on your visits from one pagoda to another. It is a fascinating place to experience the local lifestyle. Visit there early in the morning and have fresh fruit for breakfast. Or have a relaxing afternoon tea in a teahouse around. Many handcrafters work here to sell their interesting souvenirs. If you are confident in your bargaining skills, take the challenge and bring crafts home at the best prices! Don’t forget to get some traditional clothes; it's hard to find them elsewhere. It is a typical Myanmar market where shop owners yell and take you into their shop. Prepare for a warm welcome!
