Mingun Travel Guide

If you are ready to go to Mandalay, the journey would not be complete without visiting Mingun, one of the four ancient capitals that sit outside of Mandalay, located several kilometers up the Ayeyarwady River. The breathtaking temples, country lanes and a delightful boat trip will keep you in another peaceful land of Myanmar. Definitely, it is a perfect destination for those who want to get away from city life.

A tour of Mingun will refresh you with the impressive trio of attractions: Hsinbyume Pagoda, Mingun Bell, and Mingun Pagoda. White in color, Hsinbyume Pagoda distinguishes itself from the other pagodas in Myanmar for its seven terraces shaped like waves, which represent the seven mountain ranges surrounding Mount Meru. It's said that Mingun Bell is one of the largest ringing bells in the world weighing 55,555 viss (90 tonnes), and you can stand under the bell to feel what a big size it is. Besides, the Mingun Pagoda, an unfinished stupa, is known as the largest pile of bricks in the world.

MINGUN PAGODA

The Mingun Pagoda looked like a giant rock damaged by the earthquake. It was designed for 150 meters high, but only one-third of the intended height was complete. Even though it still holds the record for the largest pile of bricks worldwide. You may climb the stairs aside, move to the top, and enjoy the sight from height.
